SAIPAN — The Commonwealth Utilities Corporation has achieved 24-hour water service for the island of Saipan as of 7 a.m. Saturday, the utility announced, a milestone reached five days after Super Typhoon Bavi and less than a day after CUC reported 60% of customers at around-the-clock service.
The milestone reflects the efforts of CUC Water Division crews who worked around the clock to restore and stabilize Saipan’s water system, the utility said in a public advisory.
Customers are advised that water service may still be subject to change depending on water tank levels and the availability of electrical service to water facilities. While most facilities have been restored to grid power, some areas may still rely on temporary power sources as the system continues to stabilize, CUC said.
Water Division crews will continue to closely monitor water system conditions and electrical service in the northern areas as the power grid stabilizes.
The island-wide boil water notice remains in effect. Customers should boil water before drinking or cooking.
