SAIPAN — Gubernatorial candidates Lawrence Camacho and Edith DeLeon Guerrero issued a joint statement on recovery from Super Typhoon Bavi, telling the people of Rota they are not alone and calling on government leaders at every level to match the community’s strength with action.
“Our prayers remain with the people of Rota, who took the direct hit and now face a hard road to recovery,” the candidates said in the statement issued Wednesday. “To our friends and family on Rota, please know that you are not alone. The entire Commonwealth stands with you, and we will continue to stand with you through every step of the recovery ahead.”
The ticket acknowledged the hardships the storm brought to Saipan and Tinian so soon after Typhoon Sinlaku, saying they recognize how much resilience it takes to face a second major typhoon in one year.
Camacho and DeLeon Guerrero thanked first responders, emergency personnel and government workers across every island who worked before, during and after the storm, along with the volunteers who continue to show up for their neighbors.
“The road ahead will take patience and hard work, but we have never doubted the strength of our island community,” the statement said. “It will also take real commitment from our leaders in government, at every level, to match that strength with action: clear communication, swift resources, and follow-through.”
The candidates said their hope is for a CNMI that comes back more united, more prepared and more committed to caring for one another, especially the people of Rota as they rebuild.
“Our prayers are with every family across the Marianas. Stay safe, stay strong, and know that we are with you,” the statement said.
