SAIPAN — CUC brought Feeder 1 online at 3:28 PM Sunday, restoring power to the Commonwealth Healthcare Corporation hospital as of 4:00 PM — achieving what CUC Executive Director Kevin Watson identified as the top priority of the entire Sinlaku power restoration effort.
The milestone marks the first major feeder restoration since the island-wide outage began April 13 when Typhoon Sinlaku made landfall. Feeder 1 serves the hospital and other critical facilities on Saipan.
Watson told NMI News Service in a phone interview Saturday night that restoring Feeder 1 was the first order of business before any other residential or commercial areas could be energized, because the hospital feeds the most vulnerable people on the island.
The restoration comes five days after the outage began and follows around-the-clock work by CUC crews across the island, supported by FEMA and the Army Corps of Engineers.
