Free OSHA Warehouse Safety Course Set for Saipan, Tinian, and Rota in June

SAIPAN — CNMI OSHA Consultation will offer a free six-hour warehousing safety course on all three islands the first week of June, with sessions covering forklift operation, hazard communication, and worker protection requirements.

The course is offered by the UC San Diego OSHA Training Institute Education Center under a Susan Harwood Grant from the US Department of Labor.

The Saipan session runs Monday, June 1, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Pacific Islands Club hotel. The Tinian session runs Wednesday, June 3, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Multipurpose Center attached to the Health Center. The Rota session runs Thursday, June 4, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Northern Marianas College Rota Campus, Room A1.

Course objectives include identifying requirements for safely operating powered industrial trucks such as forklifts, training requirements for operators, safe material handling and storage of palletized materials, main requirements for the hazard communication standard, and main requirements for safe means of egress from warehouse facilities.

The course will also cover protecting warehouse workers from electrical shock hazards, using lockout and tagout energy control to protect employees, hazards of slips, trips, and falls in warehouse facilities, hazards associated with musculoskeletal disorders for warehouse workers, and main requirements for a respiratory protection program for warehouse workers.
