LaoLao Bay Preparing Phased Golf Course Reopening as Sinlaku Recovery Continues

SAIPAN — LaoLao Bay Golf & Resort is preparing a phased reopening of its golf course operations and key facilities as restoration work continues following Super Typhoon Sinlaku, the resort said Tuesday.

The resort is reviewing a weekend-focused limited operation plan and expects to gradually expand operations based on recovery progress and operational conditions. LaoLao Bay said it has prioritized safety inspections, course restoration, and infrastructure stabilization since the storm, and that continued support and requests from local golfers have encouraged the limited reopening plan.

Operational golf cart availability remains the most critical operational challenge, the resort said. Cart inventory has been significantly reduced by storm-related flooding, physical equipment damage, and battery failures caused by the prolonged island-wide power outage that followed Sinlaku. The resort noted that the terrain and layout of the property make cart usage essential for normal course operations.

Ongoing supply chain and shipping disruptions in the wake of the typhoon have continued to affect the availability of replacement parts and repair equipment, the resort said.

To help maintain stable operations and preserve equipment, LaoLao Bay said it plans to introduce temporary adjustments to certain golf cart operating policies and usage guidelines. Additional operational details will be announced together with reopening schedules.

Franco Santos, Operations Manager at LaoLao Bay Golf & Resort, said in a statement, “All departments are currently focused on recovery and stabilization efforts, with safe and reliable reopening remaining our highest priority. While full normalization will take time, we are committed to gradually restoring operations within realistic conditions for the benefit of our local community and future visitors.”

The resort has continued operating its driving range every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday throughout the recovery period to support recreation, wellness, and community activity for local residents despite ongoing power restoration challenges across the island.

Additional updates and operational details will be announced as recovery efforts continue.
