NMTech Campus Remains Closed After Sinlaku Flooding; Spring Classes Pushed to Late June

SAIPAN — The Northern Marianas Technical Institute campus remains closed following extensive flooding from Super Typhoon Sinlaku, with spring classes now set to resume in late June under a three-phase restoration plan released by the institution.

A comprehensive campus assessment conducted the week of April 20 found that flooding had saturated ceilings, floor tiles and drywall throughout the campus. The damage was significant enough to push the spring semester resumption date back by weeks.

Phase 2 of the restoration plan, a campus cleanup and restoration effort, runs from Monday, April 27 through May 8. All faculty and staff are expected to report daily from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. during that period.

Beginning May 8, the campus will shift to Phase 3 — disaster response utilization — with the facility designated for disaster response operations until further notice.

NMTech said more updates will be provided as restoration work progresses.
