SAIPAN — A high surf advisory remains in effect until 4 p.m. Thursday along west facing reefs of Saipan, Tinian and Rota, with a high rip current risk continuing through Thursday afternoon, the National Weather Service in Tiyan, Guam said in its 6 a.m. forecast Wednesday.
Today will be breezy for Tinian and Saipan and partly cloudy with isolated showers. Southwest winds of 15 to 20 mph will reach up to 25 mph across Tinian and Saipan, with highs around 88 and a 20 percent chance of showers. Tonight will be partly cloudy with isolated showers, southwest winds of 15 to 20 mph and lows around 78.
Thursday and Thursday night will be partly cloudy with isolated showers and thunderstorms, highs around 87 and lows around 78.
On the water, a small craft advisory remains in effect for Saipan and Tinian coastal waters through Thursday afternoon. Southwest winds of 15 to 25 knots with gusts to 30 knots are producing seas of 8 to 10 feet today. The weather service said significant west swell, north to northwesterly swells and localized wind waves are maintaining hazardous conditions for small craft across Tinian and Saipan waters through at least Thursday afternoon. Rota coastal waters will see southwest winds of 15 to 20 knots and seas of 7 to 9 feet, remaining just below levels hazardous to small craft through the end of the week along with Guam.
The CNMI Emergency Operations Center State Warning Point issued a special marine advisory at 5 a.m. Wednesday. Governor David M. Apatang is advising all mariners, especially those operating smaller vessels, to avoid navigating in hazardous conditions, the advisory said.
The weather service said southwesterlies will decrease to moderate to fresh tonight and gentle to moderate over the weekend, with a trend toward a wetter pattern early next week.
At Tanapag Harbor, Saipan, low tide of -0.6 feet arrives at 1:27 p.m. Wednesday with high tide of 2.3 feet at 8:43 p.m. Tinian sees a low of -0.1 feet at 12:59 p.m. and a high of 1.9 feet at 8:23 p.m. Rota’s low of -0.4 feet comes at 1:16 p.m. with a high of 2.4 feet at 8:22 p.m.
