SAIPAN — The Commonwealth declared an all clear for Saipan and Tinian on Wednesday morning as Tropical Depression Higos continued tracking west, away from the Marianas, in what emergency managers said would be the final bulletin on the system.
Governor David M. Apatang issued the all clear for both islands as of 8 a.m., according to Bulletin #05 from the CNMI Emergency Operations Center. No watches or warnings remain in effect.
In its 7 a.m. summary, the weather service placed the center of Higos near 15.2 degrees north, 142.3 degrees east, about 230 miles west of Saipan, 220 miles west of Tinian and 210 miles west-northwest of Rota. The depression was about 205 miles northwest of Guam.
Higos was moving west at 13 mph with maximum sustained winds of 35 mph, which the weather service said the system is expected to hold through Wednesday night before a slight turn to the west-northwest.
The EOC said this would be the last bulletin on Higos but urged residents to keep up with local forecasts and advisories. Northern Islands residents can reach the warning point by high-frequency single side band radio on frequency 5.205.0.
