SAIPAN — Summer school programs resume Tuesday, July 14, for most CNMI Public School System campuses, while five Saipan schools await new start dates and programs at two Rota schools are cancelled due to major impacts from Super Typhoon Bavi, the Office of the Commissioner of Education announced Friday.
Programs resume Tuesday at Oleai Elementary School, Gregorio T. Camacho Elementary School, San Vicente Elementary School, Garapan Elementary School, William S. Reyes Elementary School, Koblerville Elementary School, Tinian Elementary School, Francisco M. Sablan Middle School, Tanapag Middle School, Dandan Middle School, Tinian Middle School and Tinian High School, Da’ok Academy and Saipan Southern High School, PSS said.
Kagman Elementary School, Chacha Oceanview Middle School, Kagman High School, Admiral Herbert G. Hopwood Middle School and Marianas High School may experience a delayed resumption pending further assessment and preparation, according to the release. PSS said it continues to assess school facilities to ensure campuses are safe and ready to welcome students and staff back, with additional updates to be shared as they become available.
Summer school programs are officially cancelled for Sinapalo Elementary School and Dr. Rita H. Inos Jr./Sr. High School on Rota due to major impacts from the typhoon. Plans are underway to provide alternative student programming to continue supporting student learning and enrichment, PSS said.
Online courses through the Student Portal resume Sunday, July 12, beginning with Week 5, and will now end Saturday, Aug. 8. PSS said the first week back will allow for flexibility as some students may still have limited access to power, water and internet connectivity, and a separate support plan is being developed for students on Rota due to continued power outages and limited communications.
Early Head Start sessions also resume next week. For Monday, July 13, only, sessions will begin at 9:30 a.m. to allow teachers additional time to finalize classroom preparations.
