SAIPAN — The CNMI Public School System will cancel all summer programs on Saipan and Tinian on Wednesday, June 24, because of current weather conditions from Tropical Storm Higos, including Early Head Start sessions on Saipan.
In its first storm update, issued from the Office of the Commissioner of Education, the school system said the cancellation was made in consideration of community safety. With uncertainty surrounding the storm’s impacts, PSS said it must first ensure campuses are assessed and cleared of potential hazards, including debris and flooding, before students return.
Rota is not affected at this time, and summer programs there will continue as scheduled Wednesday, the school system said. The Summer Food Service Program Grab-and-Go lunch distribution will also continue as scheduled on Saipan, Tinian and Rota.
The PSS Athletics Girls High School Fastpitch Softball Tournament has been postponed until further notice.
