ROTA — Joint Task Force-Micronesia staff remain positioned on Rota to support Typhoon Bavi recovery, the task force said Saturday, describing its role as coordinating with federal, territorial and local partners to help restore essential services and strengthen response capabilities.

The continued federal presence comes as nearly the entire island remains without electricity. CUC Chief Financial Officer Betty Terlaje told House lawmakers Saturday that approximately 1,000 customers on Rota were without power as of Friday night, part of more than 4,500 still dark across the Commonwealth 12 days after Bavi’s direct hit.
Help is stacking up on the island this weekend. American Red Cross resource centers are open at the Round House in Songsong through Sunday and move to San Isidro Parish in Sinapalo on Monday and Tuesday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily with valid ID required, and World Central Kitchen serves meals at the Sinapalo Youth Center on Sunday at 8 a.m.
The task force said it remains committed to helping communities recover and rebuild.
