SAIPAN — The CNMI Department of Public Safety has documented 267 burglary and theft-related incidents across the Commonwealth since Super Typhoon Sinlaku struck on April 15, the department said in a press statement.
In the statement, DPS said the reported incidents include 120 cases involving business establishments, 89 involving residential properties, 42 regular theft cases and 16 copper wire theft cases.
Business-related incidents made up the largest share at about 45 percent of all reported cases, the department said, while residential burglaries accounted for about 33 percent. Together, business and residential burglaries represented more than 78 percent of all reported burglary and theft-related offenses during the period.
DPS said officers have continued patrol operations, responding to calls and investigating reported crimes while working with community partners to address criminal activity that emerged during the recovery period.
The department urged residents and business owners to secure their homes and businesses, report suspicious activity immediately and ensure valuable property is protected.
