SAIPAN – The Commonwealth Office of Transit Authority has provided 819 emergency transports since its Super Typhoon Sinlaku activation began on April 10, the agency said Wednesday, with medical trips accounting for more than 60 percent of all moves logged through 6 a.m. Tuesday.
The breakdown shows 521 medical transports, 198 shelteree moves, 52 airport runs, 18 military transports and 30 other trips.
COTA remains activated to support the CNMI Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management Operations Center for shelter transportation and other recovery needs.
On the service side, Call-A-Ride Rota and Call-A-Ride Tinian are fully operational, the agency said. Residents on those islands can call 670-236-2682 to make reservations.
Call-A-Ride Saipan remains restricted to essential trips only, including hemodialysis, prescription refills, clinic visits and scheduled medical appointments. Demand Response services are also available to transport residents to relief and recovery sites.
Fixed Route Blue Line 1B is operational under modified hours, running Sunday through Saturday from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. With bus stop signs still missing on some routes following Sinlaku, COTA asked riders to raise their hand to flag down drivers before the bus arrives.
The agency said updates will continue as conditions improve.
