SAIPAN — When Super Typhoon Sinlaku blew the roof off Rodalene’s home, the family lost more than shelter, they lost their clothes.
Chelsea Lorenzo heard about the family’s situation and decided to act. She gathered clothing donations she had collected and put together packages of clothes for Rodalene and her four children, Joy, Jada, Jayden and Jasmine, along with kitchen supplies and food to help them get back on their feet.
“I am also struggling but I would rather help people first than myself,” Lorenzo said. “My dad helping other people makes our day.”
The boxes were each labeled with the children’s names, a small detail that made the moment personal. The photo of the family receiving their packages, smiling against a backdrop of storm debris, says everything about what recovery in the Marianas looks like at the ground level.
