SAIPAN — The Senate has canceled the first day of its Fourth Special Session, which had been set for Wednesday morning, Senate President Karl R. King-Nabors said.
In a memorandum to all senators, King-Nabors said the session scheduled for 10:30 a.m. June 17 in the Senate Chamber at the Vice Speaker Jesus P. Mafnas Memorial Building on Capitol Hill is canceled until further notice. He cited his authority under the Interim Rules of the Senate and the Open Government Act.
The cancellation comes amid a public back-and-forth over utility legislation, including ratepayer-protection and CUC oversight bills that Representative Vincent R. Aldan has said are stalled in the Senate. Two of Aldan’s measures, House Bills 24-87 and 24-88, which call for an independent valuation and a third-party audit of the Commonwealth Utilities Corporation, remain unassigned in the Senate after passing the House in March.
No new date for the session has been announced.
