USACE Releases Updated Saipan Debris Removal Schedule for All 10 Sectors Through June 22

SAIPAN — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, in coordination with the CNMI Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management and FEMA, has released an updated residential debris removal schedule covering all 10 sectors of Saipan, with operations running from May 13 through June 22.

Cleanup is already underway. Sector 1, which covers Airport, Koblerville, Naftan Point, and San Antonio, has been active since May 13 and is scheduled to wrap up by June 1. Sector 2, covering As Lito, Chalan Kanoa, Dandan, and Susupe, began May 25 and runs through June 12.

Three sectors are scheduled to start this week. Sector 3, covering Garapan South, Gualo Rai, and Oleai, begins May 27 and runs through June 11. Sector 6, covering Garapan, Garapan North, Lower Base, Navy Hill, and Puerto Rico, also begins May 27 and runs through June 15. Sector 10, covering Marpi, begins May 28 and runs through June 16.

The remaining sectors come online through the end of May and into June. Sector 4, covering Chalan Kiya, Kannat Tabla, and San Vicente, starts May 30 and ends June 13. Sector 5, covering Kagman 1 & 2, Kagman 3, and Lau Lau, also starts May 30 and runs through June 20.

To support efficient collection, USACE is asking residents to place properly sorted debris along the public right-of-way without blocking roadways, fire hydrants, or utility meters. Crews ask that residents leave a 10-foot clear space around mailboxes, hydrants, meters, utility poles, and drains.

Residents are asked to separate debris into six categories: vegetative debris, including tree branches, leaves, logs, and plants; construction and demolition debris, including drywall, lumber, concrete, bricks, roofing, carpet, and furniture; sheet metal, including tin and roofing; household hazardous waste, including paints, oils, batteries, chemicals, pesticides, and cleaning supplies; electronics, including televisions, computers, stereos, radios, phones, printers, and solar panels; and appliances and white goods, including refrigerators, washers, dryers, stoves, ovens, water heaters, and air conditioners.

Regular household trash will not be collected as part of this operation, USACE said. Bagged garbage, discarded food, paper, and packaging should continue to be handled through normal waste disposal services.

Residents who need help moving debris or assistance helping manamko’ can contact the CNMI Department of Public Works at (670) 235-9570. For debris operation inquiries, the USACE hotline is (670) 588-9850.
