SAIPAN — Public School System Commissioner of Education Lawrence F. Camacho said Monday that all PSS employees remain on administrative leave following Typhoon Sinlaku, with no school reopening date set as campus assessments begin this week.
Camacho said comprehensive site assessments of all campuses and facilities will begin this week to determine the extent of damage. Emergency repairs and debris removal will follow. The commissioner said it is critical that all campuses, offices and buildings are confirmed safe before students and staff are welcomed back.
Several PSS campuses and Head Start and Early Head Start centers continue to serve as community shelters. Essential personnel will be contacted directly by their immediate supervisors. Principals and department heads are responsible for submitting names of essential employees for final approval from the Commissioner of Education and Director of Finance.
“The road ahead may feel long, but we will get through this together, one day at a time,” Camacho said.
