By Xu Jo Jo Lazaro, Valedictorian, Tinian Middle School Class of 2026
Good morning distinguished guests, faculty, parents, and friends.
There’s a quote that has stayed with me for a long time. It says:
“Do you know which country produces the most delicious tomatoes? Spain. The soil there is very difficult for tomatoes to survive, that’s why the tomatoes there try to survive the harshest conditions, making them tastier and richer. I’m sure the same will happen to people.”
I think this quote reflects our journey perfectly.
Middle school was not always easy. There were moments where we felt stressed, overwhelmed, or unsure of ourselves. We struggled through assignments, deadlines, exams, and the pressure of figuring out who we wanted to be. But just like those tomatoes growing in difficult conditions, the challenges we faced helped us grow stronger, wiser, and more resilient.
And through all of it, we were never alone.
Our families stood beside us during the hardest moments, supporting us even when we doubted ourselves. Whether it was encouraging words, sacrifices behind the scenes, or simply reminding us to keep going, their love and support became part of the reason we are standing here today.
To my family, especially my parents and my aunt, thank you for always supporting me and believing in my decisions no matter what. Thank you for every sacrifice, every word of encouragement, and every moment you stood beside me to help me reach where I am today. I would not be standing here giving this speech without your love and support. I promise that I’ll continue working hard so in the future you won’t ever regret any choice you’ve made. I’ll continue to make you proud.
To my friends, thank you for making these years unforgettable. Thank you for the laughter during stressful days, the memories we created together, and the constant reminder that even difficult moments become easier when shared with people who care about you.
As we move on to high school, life will continue to challenge us. But maybe that is not something to fear. Maybe challenges are what shape us into stronger and better versions of ourselves. So let’s not dwell on the future.
Class of 2026 Tinian Middle School, congratulations. I hope we continue to grow through every hardship and never forget the people who helped us along the way.
