SAIPAN — Rota homeowners whose roofs were damaged by Super Typhoon Bavi can begin applying Friday for temporary roofs under a new program run by the Rota Mayor’s Office with the CNMI government, the CNMI Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, FEMA and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
The Rota Temporary Roofing Program will provide eligible homeowners with temporary roofing so they can shelter in their own homes while repairs are made, the Mayor’s Office said.
Application and right-of-entry intake begins Friday, Aug. 21, at the Survivor Recovery Center at the Sinapalo Youth Center. Intake runs Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., closed Sundays and holidays. The application deadline is Sept. 11 at 4 p.m.
Residents with metal roofing damage to the main living spaces of their homes are encouraged to apply. The site must be accessible for roofing crews, and the Mayor’s Office will notify applicants regarding eligibility. Commercial properties, including multi-family apartment buildings, are not eligible.
Accepting a temporary roof will not affect a homeowner’s eligibility for FEMA Individual Assistance, the Mayor’s Office said.
