SAIPAN — The current is moving on Rota. After crews energized Feeder 2 at 9:09 Friday morning, CUC said power is being gradually restored to customers along the feeder whose homes remain safely connected to the distribution system and have no storm-related electrical damage.
The update added a generation picture the morning announcement did not: one generating unit remains in operation and is currently supplying power to the island, while crews continue repair work on a second diesel generator unit and plan a test run Friday to verify its performance.
In the field, line crews completed restoration work Thursday from Lucky Store II to the area near the IT&E antenna, and crews are continuing efforts Friday in the Sinapalo I area, extending the recovery beyond the Songsong corridor that carried the morning’s milestone.
CUC thanked the Rota community for its continued patience as crews work carefully to restore power to more customers each day. The energization came 33 days after Super Typhoon Bavi’s July 6 direct hit, at the front of the 9 to 10 a.m. window the utility announced Thursday.
