SAIPAN — The Commonwealth’s Field of Heroes commemoration returns for its 11th year, marking the 25th anniversary of September 11 with three weeks of events across Saipan and Tinian under the banner “We Will Never Forget.”
The posting of flags began Saturday at American Memorial Park on Saipan and continues today at Veterans Memorial Park on Tinian, raising the fields of American flags that give the commemoration its name.
A proclamation signing follows Thursday, September 3 at 10 a.m. at the American Memorial Park Visitors Center Theater. The We Will Never Forget ceremonies anchor the commemoration’s heart: Thursday, September 10 at 5:30 p.m. at Ada Gym on Saipan, and Friday, September 11 at 9 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park on Tinian, 25 years to the day. The fields will be retired Wednesday, September 30 at 8 a.m. at both parks.
“Let us come together in unity, reflection, and gratitude to honor those who defend our freedoms, protect our communities, and stand ready in times of need,” organizers said. All events are weather permitting.
The event is presented by Tan Holdings and the Tan Siu Lin Foundation, with the National Park Service and the municipalities among the field sponsors.
