SAIPAN — The Commonwealth Office of Transit Authority launches the Green Line on Friday, August 28, expanding fixed-route public bus service to communities and key destinations across northern Saipan.
The first trip departs Bus Stop #16 in As Matuis at 6 a.m. Friday, traveling southbound. Along the route, riders will have access to the Kensington Resort entrance near PauPau Beach, Aqua Resort Club, the Northern Marianas Technical Institute, COTA, the Port of Saipan, Eloy S. Inos Peace Park, Garapan Square and additional designated stops. The northern turnaround in As Matuis also puts riders near Marianas Trekking.
Service runs hourly, departing Garapan Bus Stop #1 at 35 minutes past the hour beginning at 6:35 a.m. The final departure from Garapan is at 6:35 p.m., with the last trip arriving in As Matuis at approximately 7 p.m. Southbound riders can transfer to Blue Line 1B in Garapan, with the first Green Line trip connecting to the 6:30 a.m. Blue Line departure and transfer opportunities continuing through the day.
“The Green Line reflects the character of northern Saipan and the natural beauty that makes this part of our island unique,” said Alfreda Camacho Maratita, COTA Special Assistant for Public Transportation. “It creates a new connection for our community and allows riders to discover more of what northern Saipan has to offer.”
The line was originally targeted for an April launch, but COTA’s activation in response to two major super typhoons shifted the timeline as the agency prioritized emergency response, transportation assistance and recovery operations. “While the Green Line had to wait, the work never stopped,” Maratita said, dedicating the launch to the COTA team.
The Green Line joins a growing network: COTA introduced its first fixed route, Blue Line 1B, in November 2023, expanded shared-ride service to Rota in May 2025 and launched shared-ride service on Tinian in March 2026. Maratita thanked Governor David M. Apatang and Lt. Governor Dennis C. Mendiola for their support.
