SAIPAN — Drivers on Beach Road in Chalan Laulau will lose the outer northbound lane during working hours starting Wednesday, with the Commonwealth Utilities Corporation closing the lane through Friday for sewer line cleaning and inspection.
The temporary closure runs 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, Aug. 19 to 21, affecting the stretch of Beach Road from Morae Kitchen and Bar to the S-11 wet well, according to a CUC public advisory issued Tuesday.
To maintain traffic flow, vehicles will be temporarily rerouted through the center lane, with detour signs and traffic control measures in place to direct motorists around the work area. CUC advised drivers to reduce speed and exercise caution when traveling through the area.
The utility said its wastewater crews will conduct sewer line cleaning and manhole maintenance during the closure, with personnel drawing down lift stations to keep wastewater levels low during the work.
The final day of the closure falls on Friday, the opening day of the 80th Liberation Day festivities at the Civic Center in Susupe. The lane is scheduled to reopen at 3 p.m., an hour before the festival’s opening ceremony.
