Tamuning, Guam — The Guam Economic Development Authority has launched Series 9 of its Qualifying Certificate Community Contribution Grant Program, committing $285,000 to Guam’s 19 village mayors’ offices.
Each mayor’s office is eligible for up to $15,000 to support grassroots community initiatives, village facility improvements and operational needs.
Eligible projects must fall into one of five categories. Those are healthcare, public safety, economic development, higher education and cultural preservation.
“Our Village Mayors are on the front lines of public service every day, working directly with our families and neighborhoods,” said Governor Lourdes A. Leon Guerrero. “Through Series 9, we are ensuring economic development funds go straight into our communities to strengthen municipal infrastructure, improve public safety, and support local cultural programs where they matter most.”
“This targeted funding gives our village leaders dedicated resources to address immediate, neighborhood-level priorities,” said Lieutenant Governor Joshua F. Tenorio. “Whether it’s supporting local health fairs, upgrading community centers, or funding youth activities, Series 9 reinforces our commitment to supporting our Mayors and improving quality of life across the island.”
The Series 9 allocation is funded entirely through community contributions made by Qualifying Certificate beneficiary Guam Regional Medical City. GEDA said that since the program launched in June 2020, it has awarded 159 grants totaling more than $2.77 million to nonprofit organizations and government entities across Guam.
“We extend our sincere gratitude to Guam Regional Medical City for their continued partnership and investment in our island,” said GEDA CEO and Administrator Christina D. Garcia. “With our Board’s adoption of Resolution 26-009, this program allows GEDA to direct corporate contributions into our 19 municipalities, providing each Mayor’s Office with meaningful financial support to complete vital village projects.”
