Wetter Weekend for the Marianas, Rota Sees Thunderstorms Through Memorial Day

SAIPAN – The National Weather Service in Tiyan, Guam is calling for a wetter holiday weekend across the Marianas, with scattered showers throughout the weekend and Memorial Day, and isolated thunderstorms in Rota.

Saipan and Tinian can expect partly sunny skies and scattered showers Saturday, with highs around 87 degrees and overnight lows near 78. East winds will run 15 to 20 mph through the day and into the evening. The chance of showers is 30 percent.

Rota sees a wetter outlook with mostly cloudy skies, scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms both Saturday and Saturday night. Highs will reach 86, with lows around 77. The chance of showers on Rota is 40 percent.

The weekend pattern continues into Sunday and Memorial Day. Saipan and Tinian stay at partly sunny to partly cloudy with isolated to scattered showers and shower chances of 20 to 30 percent. Rota remains mostly cloudy with scattered showers and a 40 percent chance through Memorial Day.

On the water, moderate to fresh easterlies will prevail through the weekend. Combined seas of 4 to 6 feet may drop another foot through Saturday before building again starting Sunday. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms remain possible across the marine zone, especially near Guam and Rota.

At Tanapag Harbor on Saipan, high tide hits 1.7 feet at 12:24 p.m. Saturday, followed by a low tide of 0.1 feet at 7:30 p.m. Tinian high tide is 1.6 feet at 12:08 p.m. and low is 0.1 feet at 7:01 p.m. Rota high tide is 2.0 feet at 12:07 p.m. and low is 0.2 feet at 7:18 p.m.
