Wet, Breezy Juneteenth Ahead as 92W Swell Builds Marianas Seas

SAIPAN — The Marianas can expect a wet and breezy stretch heading into the Juneteenth holiday, with seas building late this week as Invest 92W pushes an elevated swell toward the islands, the National Weather Service in Tiyan, Guam said.

Saipan, Tinian and Rota will see a partly sunny Wednesday with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms, east winds of 10 to 15 mph and a high near 87 degrees. Showers continue overnight with a low near 79.

The chance of showers climbs to 50 percent Thursday and 60 percent on Juneteenth Friday, which the weather service said will be breezy and cloudy with numerous showers, isolated thunderstorms and locally heavy showers possible. Southeast winds are forecast at 20 to 25 mph Friday.

In Marianas coastal waters, the weather service said 92W is producing a slightly elevated east swell that will raise combined sea heights by a foot or two late in the week. Seas of 3 to 5 feet are expected to build and peak Thursday night into Friday, reaching 5 to 6 feet, with isolated thunderstorms possible in the coastal waters for the next several days.

At Tanapag Harbor on Saipan, a low tide of -0.8 feet is forecast at 3:33 p.m. and a high tide of 2.5 feet at 11:26 p.m.

Conditions are expected to ease over the weekend, with the chance of showers dropping to 40 percent Saturday and 20 percent from Saturday night into next week.
