Smithsonian-Backed Team to Help Saipan Families Save Storm-Damaged Treasures
SAIPAN — A preservation team co-sponsored by FEMA and the Smithsonian Institution will be at the Survivor Recovery Center in Susupe today through Saturday to show CNMI residents how to save family treasures damaged by Super Typhoon Sinlaku.
Members of the Heritage Emergency National Task Force will demonstrate how to safely handle and save storm-damaged family photos, artwork, textiles, media, and other cherished items, the agencies said.
The demonstrations run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Survivor Recovery Center, located at the Gov. Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center in Susupe.
Residents who are unable to attend an in-person demonstration can learn more about salvaging family treasures online through FEMA at fema.gov/disaster/recover/save-family-treasures and through the Smithsonian’s Cultural Rescue Initiative at culturalrescue.si.edu/who-we-are/hentf.
