Guam Sends Power Authority Crews, Airport Team and National Guard to Help CNMI Recover from Sinlaku

SAIPAN — The Government of Guam announced Saturday that personnel from the Guam Power Authority, A.B. Won Pat Guam International Airport and the Guam National Guard are being deployed to assist the CNMI in the aftermath of Typhoon Sinlaku.

Advance teams from GPA and GIAA will be on the ground in Saipan by Monday. A Guam National Guard assessment team arrived on Saipan earlier this week. Guam-based responders will also be available for deployment to Tinian.

GPA’s advance team has already been in contact with CUC, with several bucket trucks and line crews expected to join the effort to restore power across the CNMI. GIAA is holding daily briefings with the Commonwealth Ports Authority and will work alongside airport personnel. The Saipan airport remains on daytime operations only.

“We are far enough along in our own recovery to lend a hand to our northern neighbors,” Governor Lourdes A. Leon Guerrero said. “When I visited Saipan and met with Governor Apatang six days ago, I made a promise that as soon as we were able, we would send help. That time has come.”
