SAIPAN — The Commonwealth Utilities Corporation’s latest restoration map shows most of Saipan’s primary lines energized in red, with crews now concentrated on the laterals and secondary connections that bring individual homes back online.
The map, released with Friday’s Joint Information Center update, marks energized main primary lines and laterals in red, lines ready for energization in yellow, work in progress in blue and mains still offline in black. About half of CUC’s 15,493 electrical customers on Saipan had power as of Friday, even as generation capacity of 34.7 megawatts now exceeds the roughly 30-megawatt pre-storm peak. The gap is in distribution, with poles, transmission and lateral lines still under repair throughout the villages.
For the work plan running through Tuesday, June 16, CUC line crews are scheduled in San Roque along Santa Remedios Road at the T-1 lift station, at the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library, in Chalan Kiya along Magellan Drive and Chalan Kiya Drive, and in San Vicente at Facey Farms and the upper village near Stanford. Guam Power Authority crews are assigned to China Town, Kagman, where water wells are the priority, and Papago Drive.
CUC said the schedule is an estimate that may change based on supplies and conditions, and should not be considered a fixed timeline. An updated plan for remaining villages is expected Tuesday, June 16. The public is advised not to approach or interfere with line crews performing restoration work.
