SAIPAN – The Commonwealth Utilities Corporation Board of Directors will hold a special meeting Thursday, May 21, at 9:30 a.m., with an update on the utility’s financial condition and recovery status set as the central agenda item, the board said in a public notice signed by Chairman Allen M. Perez.
The meeting will be held in the CUC Conference Room, Room 17, on the third floor of the Joeten Dandan Building.
The agenda also includes a discussion of personnel matters, a report from Executive Director Kevin Watson, an executive session, and the standard board procedural items. The board may vote to meet in executive session at any time to consult with legal counsel on matters deemed privileged and confidential, pursuant to 1 CMC Section 9912.
The Thursday meeting is the first scheduled CUC board sit-down since the Commonwealth Public Utilities Commission voted Friday to lift the cap on the utility’s Fuel Adjustment Charge. Senator Celina R. Babauta has called the CPUC vote an illegal violation of Executive Order 2026-005, the emergency price freeze issued by Governor David M. Apatang on April 11 ahead of Super Typhoon Sinlaku. CUC has not publicly responded to Babauta’s call for the rate hike to be reversed.
