CPA Port Update: Saipan Open to All Traffic but No Night Operations; Guam Airport Team Now Assessing Navaids

SAIPAN — The Commonwealth Ports Authority reported Monday evening that the Port of Saipan is open to all commercial traffic under Port Heavy Weather Condition Whiskey but remains restricted to daytime operations due to the absence of dock lighting, according to Port Update No. 16 issued at 5:30 p.m.

Staff from the Guam International Airport Authority arrived on island to assist in assessing apron and taxiway lights, runway signs and other items around the terminal buildings. FAA representatives are also on island evaluating damage to navigational aids and the Air Traffic Control Tower. Parts are on order but may take time to arrive.

At the airport, Jetway No. 2 is operational and Jetway No. 6 is now being repaired. Two stair carts are available as backup, bringing the total enplaning and deplaning capacity to three. Daily daylight flights continue on United Airlines, MACS and Star Marianas Air between Guam, Saipan, Tinian and Rota. The airport is running on generator power with limited water.

Rota Airport is open to receive flights. Tinian Airport remains open for humanitarian flights only during daytime hours.

Tinian and Rota seaports remain in limited PHWC Whiskey with all commercial traffic permitted during daylight hours only.

The Bank of Guam ATM at Saipan Airport is currently out of service. The Port of Saipan office elevator is also inoperable. Residents who need assistance and cannot climb stairs should call 670-664-3550.
