Coast Guard Cutter Hickory Heading to Saipan With Humanitarian Supplies, Navy EOD and FEMA

SAIPAN — The U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Hickory is en route to Saipan carrying humanitarian supplies, U.S. Navy explosive ordnance disposal technicians and FEMA representatives, with an anticipated arrival Monday around sunrise, the Coast Guard announced in Recovery Update 2 Sunday.

The USCGC Hickory previously repositioned Outer Apra Harbor Buoy No. 2 and verified aids in Apra Harbor before loading supplies and departing for the CNMI.

The USCGC Oliver Henry arrived at Rota around 11:00 AM Sunday with FEMA personnel aboard and continued on to Tinian. Additional Coast Guard crews and assets are surging north to conduct post-storm port assessments and deliver supplies to Saipan, Tinian and Rota.

A Coast Guard dive team from Hawaii is on the ground in Guam conducting port surveys, sonar operations and aids-to-navigation recovery across the Marianas.

CNMI ports in Saipan, Tinian and Rota remain closed pending assessments. The Port of Guam is operating under modified daylight restrictions, with full restoration expected Sunday evening.

The USCGC Frederick Hatch continues to participate in the search for six missing crew members from the overturned cargo vessel Mariana. JRCC Honolulu is managing the case.

NWS Guam has issued a High Surf Advisory, Small Craft Advisory and Rip Current Statement for the Marianas.
