CHCC Outreach Teams Log More Than 1,100 Mobile Medical Visits in Sinlaku Recovery

SAIPAN — Commonwealth Healthcare Corporation outreach teams provided 1,148 mobile medical visits between April 20 and May 23 as part of the post-Sinlaku recovery effort, treating 661 illnesses and addressing 511 chronic health cases across the CNMI, the corporation announced Wednesday.

CHCC Population Health Services has worked alongside CHCC clinical staff, the Community Guidance Center, Samaritan’s Purse, Team Rubicon and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response to reach residents affected by the storm through house-to-house visits, wellness checks and direct community outreach.

During the reporting period, teams also provided 778 prescriptions and medication refills, treated 96 injury cases and conducted 63 behavioral and mental health support visits. The release states the efforts have helped identify individuals and families in need of medical care, medication support, behavioral health services and follow-up treatment.

CHCC’s Environmental Health and Disease Prevention team conducted 237 inspections of food establishments and other regulated facilities during the recovery period to support the safe reopening of businesses. Sixteen establishments were temporarily closed due to public health concerns including unstable power sources, compromised water supply and improper food storage conditions. All 16 addressed the identified issues through technical assistance and follow-up inspections and were approved to reopen.

Donations and assistance were provided by Direct Relief, Heart to Heart International, Unique Pieces 670, Taewoo, Calvary Baptist Church, the Micronesia Climate Change Alliance, Ayuda Foundation, the Guam Pharmacists Association, the Diabetes Foundation of Guam and the Guam Healthcare Providers Coalition, with contributions ranging from medical supplies and medications to logistical and community support.

CHCC said it remains grateful for the collaboration of partners, donors, volunteers and healthcare professionals supporting the health and recovery of CNMI communities.
