SAIPAN — The fuel adjustment charge on CUC power bills will increase by $0.06043 per kilowatt-hour, from $0.34129 to $0.40172, effective Tuesday, September 1, the Commonwealth Utilities Corporation announced Friday.
CUC said it was notified by Mobil Oil Mariana Islands of an increase in average international fuel oil prices. Under a standing order of the Commonwealth Public Utilities Commission, CUC must adjust the FAC pass-through rate whenever the “Mean of Platts Singapore” monthly pricing meets or exceeds a 4.5 percent differential of the average per-gallon fuel cost used in the FAC calculation.
The FAC is one of two components of the CUC electric rate and pays strictly for fuel and fuel-related purchases. The other component, the base rate, has not increased since April 2014 and funds operations, projects, debt service and other non-fuel expenses; it is unchanged in the new schedule.
The updated schedule of electric charges, effective September 1, applies the new FAC across residential, commercial, government and municipal pumping classes.
