SAIPAN — Lieutenant Governor Dennis James C. Mendiola was injured Thursday night when his vehicle struck a telephone pole along Tun Kyoshi Kileleman Road in As Lito, according to the Department of Public Safety.
The crash happened at about 6:54 p.m. near the sharp curve by GPPC. According to information DPS provided Friday morning, Mendiola was traveling eastbound when he reached for an item on the passenger side of the vehicle, causing the vehicle to veer left, cross into the opposing lane and travel onto the shoulder, where it struck a telephone pole on the left front passenger side.
Mendiola was transported by medics to the Commonwealth Healthcare Corporation for examination. He reported pain in the left shoulder area and is in stable condition.
