SAIPAN – Partly cloudy skies, isolated showers and breezy easterly trades will continue across the Marianas Wednesday, with a high rip current risk in effect along east-facing reefs through Thursday afternoon, the National Weather Service Tiyan Guam said in its 6 a.m. zone forecast.
Highs Wednesday and Thursday are forecast around 87 degrees with overnight lows near 78. East winds of 15 to 20 mph will continue, with gusts to 30 mph possible Wednesday afternoon. Shower chances stay at 20 percent Wednesday and Thursday before climbing to 30 percent Friday and Saturday as cloud cover increases. The pattern turns more unsettled by Sunday with a 50 percent chance of showers and a slight chance of thunderstorms.
Mariners can expect east winds of 15 to 20 knots and combined seas of 6 to 8 feet through Thursday morning, tapering a foot or two starting Thursday afternoon. Conditions ease further Saturday into Sunday with east winds dropping to 10 to 20 knots and seas of 4 to 6 feet.
The high rip current risk continues to apply to east-facing reefs across Saipan, Tinian and Rota. NWS advises beachgoers to use caution at the shoreline through the advisory window.
