CUC Crews Replace 11 of 111 Downed Poles on Tinian as Auger Truck Returns to Service

SAIPAN – The Commonwealth Utilities Corporation said Wednesday that crews on Tinian have replaced 11 of the 111 power poles identified as downed by Super Typhoon Sinlaku, with the island’s auger truck back in operation following repairs.

CUC said the auger truck became fully operational last week after repairs and is now being used for ongoing pole replacement work as crews continue to restore and stabilize the island’s power distribution infrastructure.

The utility said crews remain committed to restoring power service safely and efficiently across Tinian.

Tinian was among the hardest hit jurisdictions in the CNMI following the direct landfall of Super Typhoon Sinlaku in April. Earlier CUC situation reports placed initial assessments of downed poles on the island as high as 245. Wednesday’s update reflects a confirmed count following completion of damage assessments.
