SAIPAN — Governor David M. Apatang on Monday signed Executive Order 2026-006 renewing the Commonwealth’s State of Significant Emergency for an additional 30 days as Sinlaku recovery operations continue.
The order extends the emergency declaration in consultation with the CNMI Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management. It will remain in effect for 30 days or until rescinded or further renewed.
The renewal is necessary for the Commonwealth Government to continue identifying and mobilizing resources for repair and restoration work tied to the Category 4 typhoon, which made landfall on Saipan, Tinian and Rota, the order said.
HSEM remains the agency with primary authority for addressing the emergency in collaboration with federal and local partners, the order said. The Special Assistant for HSEM may issue additional guidance on activation of personnel for ongoing typhoon response through the Emergency Operations Center, including criteria for typhoon premium pay.
The declaration authorizes the deployment of forces and the use or distribution of supplies, equipment, materials, facilities and personnel under the CNMI Emergency Operations Plan.
The original State of Significant Emergency was declared in the days surrounding Sinlaku’s landfall in mid-April. Monday’s order is the first renewal.
