SAIPAN — A Portland, Oregon restaurant is reaching across the Pacific to help feed Saipan families recovering from Super Typhoon Sinlaku.
Chochu Local Island BBQ, a Chamoru-owned island barbecue restaurant in Portland, is co-funding 300 free meals with D’Elegance Cafe on Saipan. Each business is contributing 150 meals for a combined giveaway of 300 plates, available Sunday, May 3, starting at 9 a.m. at D’Elegance Cafe while supplies last. The limit is two meals per family.
Tony Tenorio and the Brown family are representing Chochu Local on island for the distribution. The Portland-based team thanked them in its announcement, adding a note of warmth, “We miss you, Brown!”
Chochu Local said it is working to fund additional meal distributions and other forms of relief, and encouraged the Pacific Northwest community to help keep the effort going. The restaurant is also pointing followers to Sinlakuaid.org and other community resources for those looking to help.
“Sending love from Portland and the PNW,” the restaurant said.
