Governor Apatang Extends Administrative Leave for Non-Essential Government Employees Through May 6

SAIPAN — Governor David M. Apatang has extended administrative leave for non-essential employees of the Commonwealth Government’s Executive Branch through Wednesday, May 6, 2026, citing continued disruptions to essential services in the aftermath of Super Typhoon Sinlaku.

In a memorandum dated Wednesday and addressed to all department and activity heads, the governor said many government employees continue to face significant challenges restoring normalcy in their homes and communities, with unreliable access to water cited as a primary concern.

“This extension is issued in acknowledgment of the realities faced by our workforce and in appreciation of their resilience and dedication during this challenging time,” the memorandum said.

The extension does not apply to essential employees, whose work the governor described as critical to the collective recovery effort.
