JIC: Fuel Being Stolen from Emergency Generators Powering Saipan Water Systems

SAIPAN — The CNMI Joint Information Center is warning the public after reports of fuel being stolen from generators powering water systems on Saipan, an act that can shut down generators and disrupt water service to the entire community.

The JIC said the situation affects families, children and elderly residents who depend on consistent access to water. The generators are supporting essential services during the typhoon recovery and must remain secure and operational.

The public is strongly urged not to tamper with, damage or take fuel from emergency equipment. Under 6 CMC Section 1601, theft is punishable by imprisonment, with penalties varying based on the value of the property or service stolen.

Anyone who sees suspicious activity is urged to call 911 immediately.
