SAIPAN — Get your rods and reels ready to go because Tasi To Table’s student-led fishing derby, the 7th Annual Wahoo in the Marianas, is scheduled for Saturday, March 7, at Smiling Cove Marina, with proceeds supporting the group’s student programs.
Derby day is set to begin at 6:00 a.m. and run through 5:00 p.m., with a full day of competition on the water planned for participating vessels and anglers.
Registration is scheduled for Friday, March 6, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Smiling Cove Marina. Vessel registration is $200 and includes one captain and two anglers, while additional anglers may join for $30 each.
Prize payouts include $2,000 for first place, $1,500 for second place, and $1,000 for third place. Organizers also announced a special $500 total weight award recognizing the three heaviest non-placing wahoo.
Tasi To Table said the derby is hosted entirely by its student members and highlights their leadership, teamwork, and commitment to ocean sustainability. The organization said all proceeds will directly support its student programs and help continue education and hands-on experiences for future marine stewards.
