Student in Custody After Threatening Note Prompts Campus Sweep at Saipan Southern High School

SAIPAN — A student is in custody after a threatening note handed to a teacher prompted a law enforcement response and campus sweep at Saipan Southern High School Tuesday morning, the Department of Public Safety announced Wednesday.

According to DPS, the student allegedly wrote a threatening message on a note and handed it to a teacher on April 7. School administrators were notified the following morning, April 8, and immediately contacted law enforcement.

DPS officers responded and took the minor into custody without incident. No weapons were found on the student at the time of apprehension.

As a precaution, DPS and Commonwealth Ports Authority K-9 units conducted a thorough sweep of the campus. NMI News Service was on scene as officers worked through the school. At approximately 10:27 a.m., DPS and CPA K-9 units officially declared the campus clear. No weapons or additional threats were identified.

DPS said the investigation remains ongoing and further information will be released as it becomes available.
