SAIPAN — The Bureau of Environmental and Coastal Quality and the Division of Environmental Quality have issued a red-flag water quality advisory for multiple locations along Saipan’s west beaches as of November 18, 2025.
According to the advisory, samples collected from several sites showed excessive concentrations of fecal indicator bacteria (enterococci) that exceeded CNMI Marine Water Quality Standards. Red-flag status indicates the possible presence of human or animal waste in the water and means the locations are not safe for swimming or fishing.
The affected sites include:
- Tanapag Meeting Hall (WB07)
- Central Repair Shop (CUC Power Station, Lower Base) (WB08)
- DPW Channel Bridge (WB10)
- AMP Drainage (WB12.1)
Health officials advise the public not to swim or fish within 300 feet of these locations for the next 48 hours or until further notice.
Green-flag locations remain safe for recreational use, as those sample results meet all CNMI water quality standards.
