Saipan Chamber Business Person of the Year gala at Kensington; scholarship fundraiser tops $100K

SAIPAN — The Saipan Chamber of Commerce is set to hold its annual Business Person of the Year and board installation gala on Saturday, January 31, at Kensington Hall at the Kensington Hotel Saipan, with proceeds supporting the Chamber’s scholarship program.

Chamber President Joe Guerrero and Executive Director Kimberly Camacho shared details during a recent “Good Morning Marianas” interview, highlighting the event as both a community recognition night and a fundraiser that has raised and distributed well over $100,000 in scholarships over the years, with recent scholarship funds focused on NMC and NMTech.

Tickets are $100 per person, with a $1,000 VIP table that seats eight, organizers said.

Along with Business Person of the Year, the Chamber plans to present additional awards including Chamber Member of the Year, Small Business of the Year, Nonprofit of the Year, and Public Agency of the Year.

Guerrero said he is not seeking another term as Chamber president, but will remain on the board to help with the transition while he focuses on other responsibilities, including work tied to the Governor’s Council of Economic Advisers and the Marianas Visitors Authority board.

Beyond the gala, Guerrero and Camacho pointed to the Chamber’s year-round work through committees (including workforce development, government relations, armed forces, and tourism), business trainings, community efforts such as Toys for Tots, and advocacy on policies discussed in Washington, D.C., including workforce and visa-related issues.

The Chamber also previewed its first general membership meeting of 2026, set for Wednesday, February 4 at the Taga Hall at the Saipan World Resort, featuring Anthony Torres speaking on behalf of the Commonwealth Economic Incentive Authority.
