ROTA — A 51-year-old fisherman found unresponsive on a reef south of Poña Point Pavilion died Monday afternoon despite CPR efforts during his rescue and transport to shore, the Department of Public Safety said.
DPS-Rota Dispatch received a call at approximately 1:41 p.m. Monday reporting the man unresponsive on the reef. A bystander was already administering CPR when responders were notified.
DPS and DFEMS personnel responded immediately. DPS deployed Zodiac 3 from East Harbor at approximately 2:16 p.m., and detectives arrived at Poña Point Pavilion to assist on the ground. The victim was recovered from the reef at approximately 2:25 p.m. and transported to East Harbor by boat, with CPR continuing during transit.
The victim was then transferred to the Rota Health Center, where the attending physician pronounced him dead on arrival at approximately 2:48 p.m.
The investigation is ongoing.
