SAIPAN — The CNMI Public School System announced Sunday that all schools, offices and programs will be closed Monday, April 13, until further notice, citing anticipated weather conditions from Typhoon Sinlaku.
The closure was announced by the Office of the Commissioner of Education based on guidance from CNMI Homeland Security and Emergency Management and information from joint agency heavy weather briefings.
PSS said it will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates if circumstances change. Families were directed to follow official notices from the Office of the Governor and HSEM for the most accurate information on weather conditions and shelter locations. As of Sunday morning, Sinlaku carried sustained winds of 110 mph and was tracking toward the Marianas, with the latest Joint Typhoon Warning Center forecast projecting a direct passage over Rota as a Category 4 storm. Impacts are expected from Monday evening through Wednesday.
