WBSC U-15 DAY ONE: NMI Bounces Back With 24-5 Win Over Guam After Opening Loss to Australia

Dededo, GUAM — The NMI U-15 team responded to its opening-round loss with a statement win Friday afternoon with a dominating four-inning 24-5 mercy rule victory over Guam at the Dededo Sports Complex.

Earlier in the day, NMI ran into a strong Australia club and fell 15-0 in five innings, as the Aussies scored four runs in each of the first three innings and finished with 13 hits. NMI was limited to two hits and was charged with three errors in the opener.

Back in the afternoon, after scoring once in the first against Guam, NMI broke the game open with eight runs in the second and 10 more in the third, then added five in the fourth to end it early. Guam got on the board with two runs in the third and added three more in the fourth, but the outcome was largely decided by NMI’s middle-innings surge.

NMI finished with 24 runs on 13 hits, drew 13 walks, and struck out only once. Guam was limited to four hits and committed six errors. Kayden Lee Agulto Lizama had a perfect day at the plate, going 4-for-4 with four runs scored and two RBIs. Donray Abholmwar Lizama Barcinas went 4-for-5 with three runs and two RBIs, including the game’s lone double. Kainoa Borja Tenorio reached base four times with a hit and three walks and scored three runs, while Leighton Jayce Tomokane-Tenorio reached base three times and scored twice.

On the mound, Barcinas earned the win, pitching two innings as part of a staff effort that allowed four hits and struck out four over four innings, with Guam drawing seven walks in the game.
