NMI closes WBSC U-15 Oceania qualifiers 3-3 with big win over Guam, loss to Australia

DEDEDO, Guam — The NMI wrapped up the WBSC U-15 Oceania qualifiers with three wins and three loses across their six-game stint after closing out the final day with another big win over Guam and another rough loss to an unbeaten Australia team that neither Marianas squad could solve this week.

After a team of groundskeepers did everything they could to rehabilitate the field after the previous day’s games were canceled, the NMI opened Monday at Dededo Sports Complex with a convincing 18-2 victory over Guam in a game called after just five innings. The NMI scored 11 runs in the second inning and finished with 10 hits. Guam’s two runs came in the third.

The NMI was unable to carry that momentum into the afternoon finale that saw the Australians hand the NMI ballers a 25-3 defeat in four innings. Australia scored 12 runs in the fourth and never looked back en route to their tournament sweep.
