SAIPAN — Northern Marianas College announced Sunday afternoon that classes on all campuses and offices will be closed until an all-clear declaration is issued or until otherwise announced, citing the anticipated threat from Typhoon Sinlaku.
The college said students and employees should expect additional updates to class schedules for the remainder of the week given the storm’s expected prolonged impacts, including strong winds, heavy rainfall and flooding.
NMC said it will continue to monitor conditions through emergency management agencies and share updates through official channels including employee and student email, the NMC Portal, the college website at marianas.edu/stormupdates, and social media at @nmc.proa on Facebook and Instagram.
The college also cautioned the community to be alert to inaccurate information and disinformation that may circulate during the emergency.
As of Sunday morning, Sinlaku carried sustained winds of 110 mph and was tracking toward the Marianas, with the latest Joint Typhoon Warning Center forecast projecting a direct passage over Rota as a Category 4 storm. Impacts are expected from Monday evening through Wednesday.
